Ok, so we’ve not had the best start to summer with June recorded as one of the wettest ever. But, the Met Office promises that summer is making a comeback as the rain disappears and temperatures are set to soar in July. (Rejoice! ?)

Having been stuck inside hiding from the rain for the past month, we’ve got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to making the most of summer.

Round up your squad and get ready to soak up the rays, because we’re serving you some of the best outdoor activities in and around Salford.

Feeling active?

Run MediaCity

Why not lace up and go for a run around MediaCityUK? Run Media City holds 5k and 10k races throughout the summer where you can get active, soak up the lovely views of Salford Quays and receive a medal at the end of it! Whether you’re a keen runner or total beginner, everyone is welcome.

Get cultural

Manchester International Festival

Occurring throughout July is the hotly anticipated Manchester International Festival. The list of events is endless, from art installations to epic musical performances, live readings and delicious food and drink. There really is something for everyone.

Our highlight: The Fountainhead at The Lowry – Ivo van Hove brings Ayn Rand’s novel to the stage in this UK premiere of his most controversial work to date. A must-see.

Manchester Pride

Did you know that Manchester Pride is one of the biggest in the world?! And, this year’s event is set to be even better than ever.

The Festival is taking place across four days in Manchester city centre this August Bank Holiday (23 – 26th August 2019). Get ready for world-class performances from the likes of Ariana Grande and Years and Years, alongside the iconic Parade with over 150 entries. It’s not to be missed.

Enjoy a drink in the sunshine

The Alchemist, Media City

Renowned for its creative cocktails and buzzing atmosphere The Alchemist is an ideal spot for summer drinks. Their Media City bar and restaurant is no exception, boasting an outdoor terrace with gorgeous views overlooking the iconic Manchester Ship Canal. We can’t think of a nicer backdrop to sip on your favourite tipple.

The Dockyard, Media City

Meet the Dockbar – a converted shipping container located on the grass outside The Dockyard at Media City. A.K.A your new favourite drinking spot. During the summer months, this place is always buzzing, day and night. It’s the perfect venue to pull up a deckchair and bask in the warm Salford sun with a refreshing drink of your choice.

Delicious eats

Tuck into Tapas at Porta, Salford

Salford’s newest tapas spot only opened its doors last year, but its already a firm favourite for residents of this thriving Chapel Street neighbourhood. Set in a gorgeous Victorian building decorated with vintage Spanish prints, this popular eatery serves up little dishes with huge flavour.

It’s perfect for sociable dining – as it caters for even the fussiest of friends. Expect classic Catalan, meaty, veggie or vegan options, light plates, larger plates, cheaper choices and loads more. What’s not to love? Plus, you’re well within your rights to say “I’m not sharing this, it’s way too small!”.
